About Us

Since 1967, the Chestnut Hill Historical Society has promoted the preservation of Chestnut Hill's extraordinary architectural heritage and natural setting. Through lively programs, tours and exhibits, and the restoration of threatened buildings, the historical society has helped to keep the past alive for future generations.

Today, the historical society preserves the integrity of the Chestnut Hill Historic District (placed on the National Register by the society in 1985) by protecting key structures, open space, and the community's village character.

The collections of the historical society at 8708 Germantown Avenue are a resource for building owners, scholars and amateur historians. Its archives contain more than 15,000 architectural drawings, building records, photographs, diaries, and papers from families and individuals.

The historical society promotes a nationally recognized easement program to save cherished open space and historic facades for generations to come.

We invite you to actively participate in continuing our vital efforts in education and preservation to assure a future for our remarkable heritage.
